Cold causes

Colds are caused by a variety of viruses, with rhinoviruses being the most common culprit. These viruses infect the membranes that line the nose and throat, causing inflammation and the familiar cold symptoms.

Here's how colds typically spread

 * Airborne droplets: When an infected person coughs or sneezes, they release tiny droplets containing the virus into the air. Others can inhale these droplets and become infected.

 * Direct contact: Touching a surface contaminated with the virus (like doorknobs or shared utensils) and then touching your eyes, nose, or mouth can transmit the virus.

 * Close contact: Spending time in close proximity to an infected person increases the risk of exposure.

It's important to note that cold weather itself doesn't cause colds. However, people tend to spend more time indoors during colder months, which increases the chances of close contact and virus transmission.

Key points to remember:

 * Colds are highly contagious.

 * Good hygiene practices, like frequent handwashing and covering coughs and sneezes, can help prevent the spread of colds.

 * While there's no cure for the common cold, there are ways to manage symptoms and shorten the duration of illness.
